Longparish Primary School
The well-known children’s author, Adrian Townsend, delighted staff and pupils alike with a visit to the school during National Book Week. He told us how he gathered his ideas and set about the difficult task of writing them into stories. Budding writers were given some useful tips on how to get started and he finished by signing copies of his books.

Jeffrey Smith, the River Keeper, gave the Years 3 and 4 children a fascinating talk about his work to help with their understanding of the River Test as part of the Geography curriculum.

In sport, several school teams have been taking part in highly successful Football and Tag Rugby tournaments. It was especially pleasing that two pupils, Oliver Lindridge (Year 4) and Edward Healey (Year 5), were presented with rugby balls by Hampshire Police for their good display of skills and sportsmanship.

On the administrative side, staff and governors have been working together on strategic planning and developing ideas for the prospective new building.

The weather was unsettled but only a brief shower marred the proceedings and the sun shone for a while. Jonathan the Jester entertained the children. Parents and friends are also raising funds through the charity shop in Whitchurch for three weeks during May.

Longparish Cricket Club
The season started with two friendly matches, and Longparish then won its first match in the Tuesday evening league against Owslebury II, helped by Ken Ball’s groundsmanship in preparing a new wicket at the last moment. The first Saturday league match was narrowly lost to a strong Sparsholt II side.
