Revised Longparish Directory
When the Longparish Handbook was published in 1999, a supplementary Directory with information that needs regular updating was also printed. The Parish Council paid for both to be distributed free to every house, and there have been two subsequent revisions of the Directory. The third, dated December 2004, is being delivered with this Hill & Valley, again paid for by the Parish Council. It has a bright orange card cover which I hope might be more durable and easier to locate. I would be very grateful if you would let me know if you find any mistakes, and also when there are any changes which need to go into the next version. It may be easier to tell me at the time when committee members etc. change and I can pass the information to Fiona Gould for the website, or vice versa.
I still have a small stock of Handbooks which are usually on sale in the shop for £2 and given free by welcomers to people who move into the village. The Handbook itself will need revision and reprinting soon, and I would be grateful for any suggestions or corrections. Mary Jo Darrah
At the middle of November, things were looking a little difficult regarding staffing the stalls for the event! A number of regulars would be away on the day for various reasons. Having voiced my concern to a number of people, the 'phone started ringing with suggestions. May I say now that I am very grateful to the folks who stepped in to help out.
The sale opened with fully staffed stalls. Never the same these sales. This time, despite a poor start when what seemed to be only a few customers coming through the door, £635-00 was raised for the heating & lighting of the Church for the coming year. A very good result I felt - only £10-00 less than last year. Very many thanks to all who supplied items for the stall & raffles, to those who sold and in particular, to those who bought! My thanks once again to all of you for making the St Nicholas Sale a success. John Collins
We were pleased to celebrate St Nicholas' Day with a service in Longparish Church, led by the Revd Harrison. The Infant children performed a nativity play "The Two Birthdays" for parents and friends in the village. A School Carol Service was held in St Nicholas Church and on the last day of term members of FOLS kindly organised parties for each class.
The children and staff would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for supporting the school during 2004. We look forward to the exciting developments which lie ahead in 2005.
The end of each year is always a busy time for our 100 Club Organiser, James Young. As well as fitting in shopping excursions to buy presents, he has to organise the December Buffet Evening just a fortnight after the November draw (and write lots of cheques!).
Again the General Committee and players are extremely grateful to everyone who supported the Club by continuing their membership or by joining in 2004, so contributing a valuable £700 towards our running costs. Following a small rise in numbers during the year, James is now aiming to increase membership still further in 2005 and is even hoping to top the 200 mark! So if you are not already a member (£12 a year per number), please contact him (07904 120237) or me (01264 3519968); we will be delighted to hear from you and answer any queries. you may have. Existing members will be receiving a letter from James by early in the New Year.
