Longparish Cricket Club

Sponsored by Barker,Son & Isherwood, Solicitors

It is good to be back after a 2 month break to tell you about events at the ‘Parish since the end of the summer. Once competitive cricket had finished at the end of August, the Club's touring party gathered to spend the second weekend of September in Devon visiting Axminster and Seaton.   Althoughthe weather could have been kinder (the Axminster match was a wash-out), the Sunday fixture against Seaton did go ahead and we did see some sunshine.

Back home and the Annual Dinner/Presentation Evening was upon us when over 40 players and supporters met at The Cricketers.   After an excellent meal, our Chairman gave a most amusing account of the previous year, and this was followed by the presentation of the 2005 Club Awards by Clive Holland of Barker, Son and Isherwood, Solicitors.   We were delighted to welcome also our groundsman, Ken Ball, and Des Close of Petroleum Oils and his wife as our guests.   During the evening a most welcome contribution of £1,088 to the Club's equipment replacement fund was presented to the Chairman by Elaine Mancini, being   the proceeds from the Cricketers Inn Ladies XI versus Rest of Longparish Ladies match.   A sincere thank you to everyone who took part in the day to raise such a splendid sum, and especially to the captains, Elaine and Wendy Ellicock.

NOW… the news that to me, as a follower and supporter of Longparish CC for nearly thirty years is really, really exciting.   .I am delighted to say that a Longparish Colts team took the field on 30 th September, when an U15 side played at the Dummer Cricket Cenre in Division B of the North Hants Cricket Development Association Indoor League.   In a tough match against a side from Odiham, they acquitted themselves extremely well, especially as some of the boys could play U13 cricket.   Having held Odiham to 89 for 4 off their 12 overs, Longparish replied by putting on 25 before losing their first wicket, but were then restricted by good bowling to 69 for 5.   A great effort for a first competitive game.   Congratulations to John Hughes, Mitchell Greenham, Stuart Tognarelli (L to R in the back row) Matthew Jackman, Edward Healey and Andrew Hooker (L to R in the front row), and also to Justin Jackman who spent a great deal of time and effort to get the team off the ground.   The boys have six more fixtures during the winter, the next on 14 th Nov. at 7pm.                                Kate Hibberd
