Race Report

It was a lovely sunny morning for the January race. We welcomed three new runners, Seniors Gavin Whatley and Rob Savill and Junior Sebastian Crook accompanied by his mother, Sylvia.

Ian presents the trophies to Victoria, David and Alice

David Roebuck stormed home in first place, breaking his handicap by a massive four minutes and sixteen seconds to become Most Improved Man. Most Improved Woman was Alice Evans and Victoria Goldsmith (accompanied by her cousin Luke on his bike) took the Rising Star Trophy for Most Improved Junior. There were five new PBs, David and Victoria plus Matt Wilkinson, Jeanette Stroier and Scott Johnson. Well done!

Well done also to Nina Smith who ran circuits of the cricket field all the time her Dad was out on the race which proves she can run long enough to take part in the actual race soon.

Ian Beveridge and Jeremy Barber celebrated their 50th runs and Ian presented the trophies to Victoria, Alice and David.

Thanks very much to Maggie, Pauline , Katie and David for marshalling, to David for the signs, to Maggie and Jim for the lovely cake, to Emma for the refreshments and, of course, to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

All that Christmas pudding has had an effect, however, and a solid majority of our finishers did not break their handicaps. Time for a spot of training and dieting ready for the next race on Sunday 10 February starting at 10am at the Cricket Ground. Runners of all standards are welcome as are brisk walkers and volunteers to help with the marshalling.

It is a handicap race so the slowest have as much chance of winning the cups as the fastest. Supporters of all ages are very welcome.
